IMPURO 02.2022KIRUNA SE We live in a time where terms such as authentic, pure and genuine are increasingly occurring and whose meaning may have a greater charge than in a long time. The pure, unadulterated, is considered desirable, something that is regarded as more valuable as the “unclean”. Clean is bright and beautiful, the unclean is dark and ugly. Our interpersonal encounters are also characterized by our perceptions of what is pure and impure, of what is known to us and what is unknown. It is in this turning point between what is considered pure and impure, genuine and inauthentic from which the performance IMPURO has emerged. The production is a hybrid work where artists from different disciplines meet (dance, music, image and light). IMPURO questions if it is possible to speak of such terms as pure and impure, genuine and spurious. And if so, is one thing more valuable than the other? IMPURO chooses to see the unclean and counterfeit as indispensable ingredients and a prerequisite for all development. The scenography consists of three rooms that represent different thoughts and perspectives to who we are and how I became me. 1. Memory. Memory is our history, what we have with us, our origin. Tranås or Montevideo. Stockholm or Seville. Different languages, different ways of seeing the world, different references or experiences. 2. The skin. The surface. What we are in the eyes of others. In contrast to how I experience myself. Prejudices and thoughts shaped by culture, age, gender, class and appearance. In me, in you, in everyone. 3. The meeting The searchlight lands in the meeting, the place where necessary processes can grow and take shape and create conditions for development and understanding. During her stay in Kiruna, Sofia Castro spoke to residents and visited different parts of the city in order to gain an understanding of its history and the change that urban transformation entails. "That our stories belong together and that we can mirror ourselves in each other through patience and listening," says Sofia Castro. Kiruna is a city that developed around its iron mine and now falls victim to it. Everything is moved and renewed. Human history is forever changing and moving forward. Those are the Insights that Sofia was inspired by in the creation of the dance film.
